Dear Neighbor,

This fall, Denver voters are being asked to weigh in on a number of important ballot measures and candidate races. You should have already received your ballot in the mail. Please remember to return it by 7 p.m. November 5th. Here are my recommendations on a few key items:

Yes on Denver Measure 2A. This measure will transform the current Denver Department of Public Works into a Department of Transportation and Infrastructure. By updating the City Charter (essentially the city’s “constitution”), we will be taking a big step towards modernizing mobility in Denver.

Yes on Denver Measure 2B. This proposed charter amendment simply clarifies the role of Denver Arts & Venues as an independent agency within the City & County of Denver to reflect longstanding practice. No additional positions or resources will be needed for this administrative change.

Yes on Denver Measure 2C. This proposed charter change will allow the Denver Fire Department to operate more efficiently in two ways: by creating an Emergency Medical Technician rank for its Medical Unit and giving the Fire Chief the ability to designate a Shift Commander.

Yes on Denver Measure 2D. This proposed charter change makes it explicit and provides clarity that the city’s elected officials must reside within the city for their full term of office.

Yes on State Proposition CC. This measure would allow state government to retain all of the tax money it already collects every year, and use the money that exceeds the revenue limit to fund public schools, higher education and transportation projects.

Yes on State Proposition DD. This measure would legalize sports betting in Colorado, authorize a state tax on casinos’ net sports betting proceeds, and dedicate a portion of that tax revenue to water projects.

The following candidates for Denver Public Schools Board of Education: Diana Romero Campbell, Alexis Menocal Harrigan and Tony Curcio. I believe these candidates will be the strongest and most effective leaders to ensure a better educational experience for our students. Nothing is more important for our future than the education of our children. These candidates will best reflect the needs of our kids, their parents and the teachers who deserve our support.

Please remember to return your ballot by 7 p.m. November 5th!

Respectfully,

Michael B. Hancock
Mayor
