Liberal Doubletalk and the Situational Logic of the Left

By: Jim Daly

When does life begin? Can only women have children? Recent answers from liberals to both of these hotly debated questions might surprise you.

In a stunning admission, New York Times correspondent Jonathan Weisman acknowledged, perhaps inadvertently, what science and common sense have long affirmed – that life begins at conception.

The startling comments from one of the nation’s historically liberal newspapers came in an article detailing the Democrat party’s push to pass an unprecedented $3.5 trillion budget designed to dramatically expand nearly every area of social welfare.

Students at Christian School Follow the Culture on Homosexuality — Rather Than Scripture

By: Jeff Johnston

Volleyball Coach Inoke Tonga was forced to resign from Valor Christian High School after indicating on social media that he identified as gay, The Denver Post reported.

In response, 50 or so students walked out of school the next day. Joined by some alumni, they protested the coach’s removal and supported him. Tonga had served as head coach for the boys JV volleyball team and an assistant coach on the boys varsity team in the 2020-2021 school year.

Students waved LGBT pride flags and carried signs like “Love thy neighbor” and “Schools of quality don’t fear equality.” Leaf blowers used by school groundskeepers drowned out some of the noise from students who were shouting and speaking through a bullhorn.

A statement from the school explained the incident, showing that Inoke no longer held to the school’s statement of beliefs.

Abortion Clinic Rushed to Abort 67 Babies in 17 Hours Before Pro-Life Texas Law Took Effect

By: Zachary Mettler

One abortion clinic in Texas rushed to beat the clock and abort as many babies as possible the day before the new Texas Heartbeat Bill (S.B. 8) took effect. The clinic aborted 67 babies in 17 hours.

Left-aligned media outlet The 19th went to the abortion clinic, Whole Woman’s Health in Fort Worth, to see what was happening on the inside the day before S.B. 8 became enforceable. The law prohibits abortions in the state after six weeks gestation and took effect on September 1, 2021.

The outlet reported that in order to get through all of its patients, the clinic “needed to perform eight abortions an hour with only one doctor on duty.”

The doctor was “an octogenarian who had been working since 7 a.m. It felt impossible.”

One California County Still Pursuing Millions in Fines from Church for COVID Violations

By: Bruce Hausknecht

While various California counties as well as the state government are paying out hundreds of thousands of dollars to settle claims from churches they unconstitutionally attempted to shut down because of COVID-19, one county still hasn’t gotten the message.

In June 2020, Calvary Chapel San Jose and its pastor, Mike McClure, sued Santa Clara County in an attempt to block the county’s ban on in-person worship and restrictions on outdoor worship related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The county persisted in its mandates even after the state began relaxing its own restrictions. The church complained that the county was applying stricter standards to churches than to businesses and other activities.

In October, the county sued the church, claiming it was a public health hazard and nuisance for holding worship services in violation of the county’s mandates. The fines it has assessed against the church now total $2.8 million.

A Summer 2021 Reflection

By: Mike Berry

For most of the fifty-two weeks of the year, my life as a religious liberty attorney is spent in the fast-paced, high stakes world of constitutional litigation. And because the threats to religious liberty show no signs of slowing, neither does life.

But for one week during the year, my family escapes the 21st Century American life and finds respite at Pine Cove Family Camp.

At its core, Pine Cove’s mission is to be “Christ centered, others focused, and seriously fun.” And boy do they mean it. Although Pine Cove is run by permanent staff, the heart and soul of camp is the hundreds of caffeine-fueled and Jesus-loving college students who comprise Pine Cove’s counselors.
