A Note from Chrissy: With humanitarian crises unfolding across the globe, I wanted to get in touch this month with an update from my office. From Hurricane Ida to the sudden, alarming rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan to the rise of the Delta variant and continued toll of COVID-19, I want all affected persons – allies, veterans, family members, and so many others – to know you’re my priority every day I go to work. Here’s what I’ve been working on to support you and your family:

From Capitol Hill: Afghanistan. I’ve been devastated to watch the Taliban take Kabul, Afghans take desperate measures to escape their own country, and women and girls left terrified of the future that lies ahead for them. Time is of the essence to help the Afghan people. That’s why, along Rep. Meng and 75 other colleagues from both sides of the aisle, I led a letter to Secretary Blinken with recommendations to expedite the safe transport of American citizens and Afghan allies still trapped in Kabul. We must act quickly to get those out who are likely to be targeted by the Taliban.

MSNBC: Afghanistan: Latest. As U.S. Armed Forces airlifted Americans and Afghans out of Kabul, I spoke with Joy-Ann Reid at MSNBC about what the Biden administration needs to do to protect Americans and uphold our promises to our allies. Lives depend on it. Watch here.

DAILY LOCAL NEWS: Houlahan works to fix “broken” passport system. I have heard from hundreds of constituents struggling with passport renewals this year because of massive backlogs at Passport Centers. These backlogs are disrupting educational opportunities, family reunions, important work travel, and more. Along with my colleague Rep. Hill, I organized over 200 members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to urge the Administration to quickly fix this issue impacting so many Americans in so many ways. Read more.

From Capitol Hill: Bipartisan bill would reduce health care costs for veterans and their families. The past year has been an incredibly difficult time for so many Americans, particularly veterans, and it’s crucial that our veterans and their families have access to affordable mental-health care. As a third-generation military veteran, I’m proud to have partnered with fellow veteran Rep. Reschenthaler to introduce our Stop Copay Overpay Act, which would ensure that veterans receive affordable mental-health care. After all they have done for this nation, our veterans deserve nothing less.

The Mercury: $5.9 Million in COVID Relief Funding now helping Chester County Restaurants, Hotels. After hearing from small business owners, I fought to make sure their Paycheck Protection Program loans of $150,000 or less would be easily forgiven. And after hearing from theaters and other venues shuttered by COVID, and red tape holding up $5.9 million in Small Business Administration grants, I led an effort to fix it. With COVID having caused so much loss and destruction, we need to support our small business owners as much as we can. Read more.

That’s it for this month, but stay tuned for more updates on my fight for working families in our Commonwealth and across our nation. And, while it's somewhat out of the ordinary in Washington, I make sure to take time every week to return the calls of at least a few of the constituents who've contacted our office. These conversations keep me grounded in the most urgent issues facing our community. I’d love to hear from you, too! There is work to be done. – Chrissy

While Chrissy is focused on delivering progress in the House, fundraising is the last thing on her mind. But the GOP is already eyeing our critical battleground – and amid Republican gerrymandering, the GOP just named Chrissy one of their top targets for a blue-to-red flip. We must strengthen our resources early to make sure we can defend this battleground district come 2022 – so we’re asking for her: Will you make a donation to help reelect Chrissy to Congress? Your support will make such a difference in our work to defend this critical seat and keep the House blue.
