[1]Mandela Barnes for Wisconsin

Friends —

A lot of people say we can’t afford to pass legislation addressing global climate change.

But how can we afford not to act?

Not only do economists say climate change will cost the United States tens of trillions of dollars in lost economic activity, but look around us:

Hurricane Ida took out New Orleans’ electricity and put parts of the east coast underwater.

California is on fire.

There is drought in much of the western United States and there are water shortages on the Colorado River.

There were major disruptions to Texas’ power grid months ago after an unprecedented winter storm in February?

Meanwhile, parts of Wisconsin are facing severe drought, and, according to the Wisconsin Climate Initiative, temperatures in the state are expected to warm between 3 and 8 degrees by mid-century while extreme weather becomes more commonplace.

It is long past time for Congress to act on climate change — and maybe they will. But they won’t do it unless people make their voices heard. So we’re asking:

Can you join Mandela Barnes and call on Congress to pass legislation that finally tackles and prepares America for climate change?

Wisconsin is a swing state, and our opinion matters ahead of these big votes. So thank you for sounding off. It’s important.
