Team,
This afternoon, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a new lawsuit against the state of Texas over its radical ban on abortion after six weeks of pregnancy. This new case comes just one week after the U.S. Supreme Court denied our emergency request to block the law.
This is the first time in history that the U.S. federal government has sued a state to protect access to abortion.
I wanted you to see my full statement, below, on this critical step in the fight to protect access to abortion care in Texas and across the country.

Statement from Nancy Northup, President and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights
It's a game changer that the Department of Justice has joined the legal battle to restore constitutionally protected abortion access in Texas and disarm vigilantes looking to collect their bounties.
Right now, and every day this law is in effect, patients are being denied access to essential health care, and the hardest hit are people of color, those struggling to make ends meet, undocumented immigrants and others with pre-existing obstacles to access health care.
