The most restrictive anti-abortion law in the country is now in effect in Texas.
S.B. 8 bans abortion after six weeks — before most people even know they’re pregnant — effectively ending Roe v. Wade protections in Texas. What’s more, it puts a $10,000 bounty on abortion providers or anyone who helps facilitate an abortion after six weeks.
These extreme policies create enormous financial and logistical barriers to accessing safe abortion care — especially for low-income people and BIPOC communities — and criminalize healthcare providers who provide this necessary care. But, we can still help.
As Chairwoman of the Pro-Choice Caucus’ Abortion Rights and Access Task Force, Ayanna is working hard to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act to directly address current attacks on abortion rights and ensure everyone’s right to safe, legal abortion care.
Abortion is a fundamental human right, and we won’t stop fighting until it’s guaranteed for every person — but today, our neighbors in Texas need the immediate support of our movement.
