Dear John,
Young Canadians are set to inherit a mountain of government debt and the burden of increased annual interest payments. A new Fraser Institute study out today paints a clear picture of what this adds up to.
Not only does it confirm that the debt the federal government is expected to accumulate will be disproportionately paid for by younger Canadians, it also calculates how much more they're going to pay.
Canadians aged 16 to 35 will pay an additional $19,880 per person in personal income taxes over their lifetime to pay the interest on the massive increase in the federal debt that has, and will continue to be accumulated from 2019 to 2025. That’s just due to interest costs and does not include the additional tax burden that would be required to actually pay down the federal debt!
Get more details by checking out the full study here... and be sure to share this with any young people you know!
Stay safe,
