Remembering Our Heroes on the 20th Anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks
Share This Article:
This September 11 marks the 20th anniversary of the attacks on 9/11. CWAers across the country will be participating in remembrance events to honor the heroes we lost that day and those who participated in the response, recovery, and rebuilding.
“This 20th anniversary is a painful reminder of the experiences that have been seared into our collective memories and our history books. For those who were present in the New York City disaster area as responders, workers, or residents, 9/11 is not a distant memory, but rather continues to be an ever present part of their lives,” said CWA President Chris Shelton in a statement. “I know that many of you will be participating in memorial events across the country. As we remember those who took incredible risks and sacrificed their lives, let us take pride in knowing that our fellow CWAers answered the call on this day of tragedy and the days, months, and years that followed to help our nation heal and recover. They will always be our heroes.”
The impact of this tragic day is still being felt by those who contracted severe illnesses as a result of the 9/11 attacks and the work they did in the years since. CWA encourages all eligible members to take full advantage of the programs that are available for 9/11 survivors and responders as soon as possible.
More information about these available programs and 9/11 remembrance events can be found here. This page also includes video testimonials from CWA Local 1101 members talking about their experiences on September 11th and the work that they did to restore essential communication services under incredibly difficult circumstances.
