In 2020, Republicans proved that they will go to any lengths to win power. Now, our very democracy is at stake in elections to come.

North Carolina’s General Assembly recently started the process of drawing new congressional and legislative district lines, and we all need it to go better than last time. After Republicans drew districts to consolidate their own power, the blatant gerrymandering was so egregious that the GOP’s maps got thrown out.

Our voters deserve fair, nonpartisan maps from the start — they deserve to know that their voices will be heard at the ballot box.

Every district that Republicans gerrymander in their favor is one more roadblock to moving forward for North Carolina. From repairing our infrastructure to expanding Medicaid access, Republicans are dead set against improving the lives of people in our communities.

But most importantly, this is about our democracy, John. This is about making sure that each North Carolinian is able to have an equal say in our government — rather than allowing some voters to have more power than others.
