John, this is difficult to talk about but it’s urgent:
Over Labor Day weekend, over 400 people were shot across the United States. Yes, that’s just over a single weekend. With gun violence becoming a sickening and devastating pattern week after week, surges like this barely make the news anymore. But take a moment to think about all of the faces behind these harrowing numbers. In Charlotte, NC, a 16-year-old boy was murdered in a horrific triple shooting. And the person charged with this crime is only 14 years old. Something has to change. We can’t keep living -- and dying -- like this. That’s why we’re asking you to participate in our FINAL WEEK of Daily Action Hours where we organize and contact our Senators about passing meaningful legislation to curb this public health crisis.
This problem may feel overwhelming and unsolvable -- but it’s not.
We know exactly how to fix this: Research shows that community-led intervention programs can effectively reduce gun violence rates in urban cities by significant margins.
That’s why we’re calling on Congress to include funding for violence prevention in their budget reconciliation and to pass the Break the Cycle of Violence Act.
During our Daily Action Hours, we’ll make calls to our Senators demanding they support this life-saving bill. We truly cannot afford to wait any longer.
Over 30,000 people in the United States have died from gun violence in 2021. We are on pace to shatter records -- and there’s no sign of things slowing down.
When do we reach our breaking point? When will our elected representatives act?
We hope to see you there.
