URGENT: Sign on to protect Roe v. Wade
Tell Congress to codify Roe v. Wade’s abortion rights in law
|
John -- last week, Texas implemented an extreme ban on abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy -- before most people even know they’re pregnant.
The law also stipulates that private citizens can sue a woman whom they suspect of having an abortion and receive a $10,000 “bounty” if their lawsuit is successful!
Will you take action TODAY and sign our petition to call on Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and once and for all codify a woman’s right to an abortion in law?
This Texas law is dangerous -- it won’t do anything to decrease the rate of abortions, but rather will decrease the rate of safe abortions. Pregnant women will still find ways to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, but now they may have to resort to risky methods to do so.
And, of course, this law will exacerbate existing inequalities -- many women can’t afford reliable family planning services or can’t afford to travel out of state to receive an abortion.
A 2020 study found that out of thousands of pregnant women, 72% of women who were denied an abortion ended up living in poverty.
You may be wondering where the Supreme Court is in all of this -- the court not only refused to block the Texas bill, but is also set to decide on a case by June 2022 that could overrule Roe v. Wade.
And, based on the Supreme Court’s conservative majority, they are likely to do so.
That’s why we must keep our Democratic House Majority and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act into law. Not only would it enshrine a woman’s right to an abortion in law, it would supersede all state level restrictions -- effectively reversing all 6-week bans, “heartbeat bills,” and other means of dissauding women from receiving an abortion, like mandatory waiting periods.
We need 10,000 of you to sign our petition TODAY to tell Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act -- can we count on you to add your name?
-- Hold the House
