In this letter, we say goodbye to summer 2021. In fact, our chapter officially capped it off this past weekend with our End-of-Summer Social (see the photo below). In addition to sending off the season with fun and food and green grass, that event was an opportunity for those of us who'd fallen out of touch or out of action to get reconnected and re-organized. We were glad to see so many of your faces and to be making plans together for this fall and beyond – for our future.

So what's your next event going to be? What about joining the national campaign to pass a Green New Deal for public schools, to fund a healthy, sustainable education system for all? How about a lesson from SHOP, the Socialist Housing Organizer Project, on the 10 Ways Landlords Screw Tenants Over (And How We Organize to Fight Back)? DEMANDING HAZARD PAY, TRANSIT WORKERS FORCE AC TRANSIT TO THE NEGOTIATING TABLE

All across California, frontline workers have demanded and won hazard pay during the pandemic, especially in grocery, retail and healthcare workplaces. Transit workers in the Bay Area, though, have not received one penny of extra compensation for continuing to work in life-threatening conditions. On July 28, over 40 AC Transit workers and riders spoke up at the AC Transit board meeting to demand transit workers be paid retroactive hazard pay.
