I’ve never considered my dad particularly fashion-forward, friend, but last Tuesday’s debate might just prove me wrong. I was surprised — and entertained — when his tartan tie got so much attention, including an article in men’s fashion magazine Esquire.

The story behind the tie is part heritage, part habit. Our family has Scottish roots, so the pattern is a symbol of that past. But it’s also part of my dad’s get-ready-for-action routine — growing up, I remember him wearing the same tie to work every day for years. Some people “dress for success” or “put on their game face” — my dad dons his tartan tie. It is something he’s always done, and I imagine he will always do.

If you want to join our pro-tartan team, chip in $5 to my dad’s campaign today and we’ll send you one of our tartan bandanas in appreciation. [link removed]
