Texas governor signs voting restrictions bill into law

The assault on voting rights continues, John.

This week, Texas enacted an extremely restrictive voting law that bans drive-thru voting, curbs mail-in ballots, and legalizes intimidation at the polls.

We should be making it easier to vote, so let's call this law what it is: a blatant attempt by Texas Republicans, including Governor Abbott, to appease Donald Trump, turn back the clock on voting rights, and fabricate evidence that the 2020 election was stolen. This law will hit minority voters the hardest, so we have to stay on our toes.

Dwight passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA) through the House last month to fight back against laws just like this one. The John Lewis VRAA would restore key provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that so many of our ancestors, including John Lewis himself, fought for and put us back on a path toward racial equity in voting.

Between last week's extreme abortion ban going into effect combined with this new voter suppression law, Texas GOP is dead-set on curtailing our constitutional rights. It's up to us to fight back.

The right to vote is the foundation of all our other legal rights in America and getting the VRAA through the Senate is a moral imperative. Take action with Dwight now by demanding that the Senate bring the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to a vote.
