You've probably heard that CCL is undergoing a national effort to get a #PriceOnCarbon in the budget reconciliation package in Congress. You've probably heard that the Senate Finance Committee is indeed considering a carbon tax. You've probably heard that we beat last month's goal of getting 10k calls from constituents across the country (11,488!).
We are organizing several strategies to support this campaign. Join our campaign update and phone bank session tonight, and our monthly chapter meeting on Saturday to hear all about what you can do to make a difference.
Rally with CCL-DC for the campaign for a #PriceOnCarbon. There's a viable chance to include a carbon price in this year's Infrastructure Package--and it would be filibuster-proof. Hear about how the campaign has gone so far, what the outlook looks like, and, following the update, join for calls we'll make to important states in the country.
Join Citizens' Climate Lobby DC Chapter as we multiply our efforts on climate change. We'll plan upcoming events and breakout into our chapter teams: Labor Outreach, Student Outreach, Congressional Advocacy, and Movement Building.
What: CCL DC Chapter Meeting When: Saturday, September 11, 11am-12:30pm ET
CCL's featured speaker for September's call will be Aaron Cosbey, with the International Institute for Sustainable Development.
Border carbon adjustments, a mechanism to shield businesses in nations with robust climate ambition, have been a hot topic recently. The European Union has announced it will impose such taxes starting in 2023, and Senate Democrats in the U.S. have included it in the budget reconciliation resolution. To learn more, we turn to Aaron Cosbey with the International Institute for Sustainable Development. Aaron is an economist with 30 years of experience in the areas of trade, investment and sustainable development. He has served on the Deputy Minister for International Trade’s Academic Advisory Council on Canadian Trade Policy and recently wrote a report on the need for Canada to adopt a border carbon adjustment.
What: CCL August Speaker When: Saturday, September 11, 1:00-2:00pm ET
*Stay on the same line after the monthly meeting*
