Did you know that polling suggests California is dangerously close to electing a far-right Republican governor?
Did you know that the lead Republican running to replace Governor Gavin Newsom – Larry Elder, California's likely governor if the recall goes through – is a radical right-wing, pro-Trump extremist who opposes the minimum wage and opposes science-driven public health measures to get the COVID-19 pandemic under control?
Did you know that as America's largest state (and the world's fifth largest economy), California having progressive leadership drives progressive policies nationwide in fighting climate change, making health care accessible, and so many other areas ... and far-right leadership that will take California backwards, especially on environmental policy, will have a devastating impact on our country and our planet?
And did you know that if 88-year-old Senator Diane Feinstein becomes unable to serve the rest of her term, the governor of California will appoint her replacement – so a Republican governor of California could determine which party controls the U.S. Senate and could reinstall Mitch McConnell as Majority Leader??
The stakes are incredibly high and time is running out to sound the alarm and get every progressive ballot in!

California leads the country on progressive reforms, from environmental regulations designed to dampen the severity of climate change to increasing access to the ballot box. But if the Far Right’s recall of Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is successful eleven days from now, all of that progress would go right out the window.
The story of how we got here is complicated, so here at People For the American Way we wanted to make sure our members have a chance to hear directly from experts on the issue – and on why it’s so important each and every one of us gets involved to get out the vote against the recall.
Right now, Gov. Newsom is polling within the margin of error against radical right-wing radio host Larry Elder – and having Elder as governor would be catastrophic for all the issues most important not only to Californians, but also to progressives nationwide.
At the briefing, Norman, Dolores, and I will talk about how Gov. Newsom’s policies align with our progressive goals, and how we cannot afford to let the most progressive state in the country fall to a far-right candidate like Elder. And most importantly, we’ll share what you can do, no matter where you live, to make sure that California votes NO on the recall.
Progressives need to go all-in to stop the radical right takeover of our nation's largest state – please help us make sure that the right-wing’s recall effort does not succeed.
