We can't seem to escape toxic politics, and right now we are facing unprecedented partisanship on redistricting. 

There's a better way and I can prove it – if you're willing to assist An America United! 

Here in Maryland, decades of partisanship has given us the humiliating reputation as one of the most gerrymandered states in the country. The previous Democratic Governor Martin O'Malley even admitted under oath that these unfair maps were drawn to benefit his party. 

I decided to break that cycle, when I signed an executive order to create a NONPARTISAN, INDEPENDENT CITIZEN commission to draw Maryland's next state legislative and Congressional districts. This commission is made up of Marylanders from all walks of life, not partisan politicians.

The truth is, gerrymandering is tearing our country apart.

• It forces the two sides farther apart, by creating safer districts and fewer competitive races.
• It makes bipartisanship and compromise harder at every level.
• And it makes our leaders less accountable to the voters who elect them. 

We must have the courage to do what is right. We need independent leaders who are willing to empower the people they serve, not politicians.

I believe America should be indivisible, and I aim to prove it in Maryland with a better way forward on redistricting.  

We need an America UNITED, not divided by partisan gerrymandering.
