I just got back from the press conference, where Governor Evers called for a special session to address gun violence. We applaud him for boldly addressing a problem that is devastating families and communities all across our state.

We join Governor Evers in urging legislators to take up two essential, evidence-based policies, proven to reduce firearm fatalities: requiring background checks on all gun sales and giving families the ability to petition the court for an extreme risk protective order (ERPO), which will allow for the temporary removal of firearms when loved ones are in imminent danger of hurting themselves or others.

Recent polling shows that both of these lifesaving policies are supported by the vast majority of Wisconsinites, including gun owners. Wisconsinites want and deserve these commonsense remedies. 

Governor Evers said that for these lifesaving policies to become law, citizens must contact their legislators. That's why, we're asking you to send a message to your legislators right now, asking them to support the bills in the special session.
