Team,

Last week the Texas Legislature passed one of the most extreme voter suppression bills in the country. Yesterday Governor Abbott signed the bill into law which will add new ID requirements, limit vote-by-mail, and outlaw efforts that made voting more accessible during the pandemic.

I joined my colleagues in the House last month to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore and strengthen the protections of the Voting Rights Act. I'm proud that this bill also includes the provisions I introduced to safeguard voting rights for young Americans and strengthen the protections of the Twenty-Sixth Amendment.

It was a true honor to serve with John Lewis in Congress, and now the responsibility falls on all of us to continue his life's work to strengthen our democracy and the right to vote.

The Texas voter suppression bill is another reminder of how urgent passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act is to protecting our democracy.

We can't preserve our democracy until everyone can exercise their right to vote freely without barriers and suppression. Now we need the Senate to take the next step and bring the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act for a vote.

Will you add your name to call on the Senate to vote on the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4) immediately?
