Hi John, we hope
that you had a restful Labor Day.
This past month, we’ve started something new: We call it the Whiteboard.
It’s our chance to lift up leaders across the progressive space and Truth
to Power’s endorsed candidates. This week, we’re shining a light on folks
who are speaking truth to power on the rights of workers.
[ [link removed] ]We could use your support to keep it going. If you want to contribute
to Truth to Power’s upcoming slate of endorsed candidates, you can do so
here. If you’d like to read more from our leaders—read on!
While Labor Day may now be behind us, the fight for workers continues
every day. We’ll continue to support and lift up candidates that are
committed to working families and economic justice. As far as we’re
concerned, there is no other way.
Thank you, John!
Onward,
The Whiteboard at Truth to Power

John,
Welcome back to The Whiteboard, John,
and happy Labor Day.
Today, we’re celebrating workers and the labor unions who stand beside
them, and honoring the elected officials continuing the fight for better
wages, better working conditions, and a government that works for working
families, not special interests.
Many of those leaders are Truth to Power alumni.
Leaders like Rep. Katie Porter, who created Truth to Power to be an
organization dedicated to fighting for working people—not huge
corporations and lobbyists.

[ [link removed] ]@katieporteroc I don't know who needs to hear this but: starting a
GoFundMe because you're unwilling to pay your
workers what they deserve or do things well-within
your power to help consumers in need is not
charitable. It's cheap.
And Jamaal Bowman, one of the Representatives who led the fight to pass
the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act in the House—and continues
to push for its passage in the Senate.

[ [link removed] ]@katieporteroc Black workers are paid 13.7% more when belonging to
a union.
Latino workers are paid 20.1% more when belonging to
a union..
Women are paid 5.8% more when belonging to a union.
We need the Senate to #PassTheProAct and bring us
closer to pay equity. Is your Senator on board?
It includes leaders like Cori Bush, Congress Member from Missouri, who has
led the fight to raise the minimum wage and ensure every worker is paid
not just a living wage—but a just wage.

[ [link removed] ]@coribush Starvation wages forced me to live in my car with my two
babies.
Starvation wages left me making decisions between
keeping the lights on and food on the table.
Stop blaming unemployment benefits for worker shortages
and start paying people a livable wage.
More than 125 years after Labor Day became a federal holiday, there’s
still so much work to be done to ensure protections for workers all across
the country: Right now, income inequality is worse than ever before, and
the federal minimum wage remains at just $7.25 per hour. We need unions
and strong worker protections, not just today but every day.
[ [link removed] ]Truth to Power endorsed candidates are standing in solidarity with
workers across the country—chip in now to help us keep them fighting for
working people.
Thank you for standing with us.
