Dear John,
Yesterday in a setback for voting rights, Governor Abbott signed into law restrictions to make it harder for Texans to vote. It was a sad day for Texas. Our state is already one of the hardest states in our country to vote in, and with this new law, everyday citizens will find it harder to make their voices heard in our elections.
It’s time for Congress to fight back against voter suppression in Texas and around the country. The House has passed two bills, the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to strengthen voter protections and restore the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which was gutted by the Supreme Court. I now urge the Senate to take up these bills and send them to President Biden’s desk.

Protecting Americans’ voting rights used to not be a partisan issue. Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the landmark Voting Rights Act into law in 1965 and Republican President George W. Bush reauthorized it in 2006. I hope my colleagues in the Senate uphold that legacy and take action to protect our democracy and this sacred right. The future of our country depends on it.
As always, my team and I are always here to answer your questions and help with any issues you have with federal agencies. If you would like to contact me, please send an email, or call my office at 972-972-7949.
It is an honor to serve North Texas, where I was born and raised.
Sincerely,
Colin Allred Member of Congress
