DOJ issues warning to states ahead of redistricting
"The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday issued a warning to states ahead of a year of congressional mapmaking that it will pursue cases against jurisdictions that seek to dilute the voting power of various minorities."


This is very welcome news: The Biden administration has announced that they're watching how states draw their maps during redistricting and will take legal action if those maps don't "fairly enable all citizens... to elect the candidates of their choice."

But here's the thing: Any legal cases could take years to make their way through the courts. And because of the disastrous Rucho SCOTUS decision, the federal courts can’t even review cases about partisan gerrymandering! That's why it's critical that we fight as hard as we can for fairness NOW, before the maps are finalized.
