John,
Protecting the freedom to vote has never been more critical.
We’ve seen draconian laws enacted to suppress votes and silence voices in Texas, Georgia, and other states.
That’s why I was proud to vote last month for HR 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act. I can think of no more fitting tribute to my friend and colleague, John Lewis, who fought for voting rights his entire life.
The Act strengthens the Voting Rights Act of 1965, weakened by the U.S. Supreme Court decisions over the past ten years. HR 4 makes it more difficult for states like Texas and Georgia to restrict voting access.
But here’s the deal, John: The bill now goes to the Senate for debate and passage before going to President Biden for his signature. As in the House, Republicans appear solidly opposed to the bill, and several Democrats refuse to commit.
With our democracy at stake, will you sign our petition demanding the Senate step up and protect the freedom to vote? [[link removed]]
SIGN ON HERE [[link removed]]We cannot allow the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act to die in the Senate as Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy want to happen.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans face the prospect of having their freedom to vote denied. We need to fight back against these attacks on our democracy by state legislatures with a suppression agenda.
John, can you sign our petition immediately demanding the Senate pass voting rights legislation as an urgent priority? >> [[link removed]]
