I hope you had a restful holiday weekend -- I wanted to touch base with you about the troubling news to come out of Texas last week.
Republican lawmakers in the state previously signed into law an abortion ban that’s been called “the most far-reaching” restriction on a woman’s constitutional right to choose in nearly 50 years, and the law took effect last week after Supreme Court inaction.
The law will make it harder for Texans to access critical health care, and it even deputizes and incentivizes private citizens to enforce the law with a $10,000 bounty.
And this could just be the beginning -- Republican lawmakers in at least six other states are considering copying the Texas law. And the Supreme Court’s decision to not intervene could be a bad sign for the future of Roe v. Wade and access to reproductive health care in our country.
The majority of Americans believe that everyone should have access to the full range of reproductive health care. I’m 100% committed to protecting Roe and a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, and I will continue to stand up for those rights in Congress.
We need to keep public pressure high. Will you add your name to mine and join our call demanding an end to these attacks on women’s reproductive health care and constitutional rights?
Your friend,
Dutch
