This letter demands that zoos and aquariums be subject to greater public scrutiny and to make it a legal requirement for these businesses to publish a list of information including the causes of death of the animals they hold captive.
For years animals at South Lakes Safari Zoo in Cumbria were dying in tragic and barbaric ways. Some were left to starve, some were electrocuted, some seriously injured. It took years for this horror to be exposed and for action to be taken.
Currently the zoo industry does not have to publicly share information on how or why animals lose their lives. Zoos and aquariums across the UK are able to keep hidden from the public the reasons why animals die in their care.
So we are demanding: NO MORE ZOO SECRETS!
This is just one of a list of pieces of information that we are demanding zoos should be required to release to the public.

The zoo industry were offered £100 million by the Government to bail them out during the coronavirus crisis. This is public money and as such, the public deserves to know more about what happens to the animals behind zoo doors.
