John, a new article in The Texas Tribune perfectly sums up what’s happening not just in the Texas legislature, but in Republican-led legislatures all over the country:

"Republicans are working to 'fortify their position, a two-step exercise that starts with restrictions on voting ... and ends with new political maps based on the 2020 census'."

The truth is that for all the talk about “election security,” Republicans have focused their new voting laws on one goal: Reducing the number of Democratic-leaning voters who are able to cast a ballot.

And when it comes to redistricting, their aims are just as craven. Republicans aren’t interested in fair maps that accurately represent their constituencies. They’re interested in slicing up territory in whatever manner will allow them to hold the most seats -- regardless of what the voters have to say about it.
Right now we have an opportunity to mobilize our grassroots army, fight back, and make sure legislators know there will be consequences at the polls if they try to use redistricting to gain an unfair advantage -- but with the redistricting process already underway , we’re rapidly running out of time.

Your help will be critical to winning this fight, John. Will you rush a donation right now to help the NDRC keep up our work to protect voting rights and end Republican gerrymandering?
