Texas' redistricting hearings began yesterday, and Republicans are already trying to draw unfair lines.

Friend,

We just entered a new stage in the fight for voting rights. Yesterday -- the same day that Greg Abbott signed his anti-voter bill into law -- the Texas legislature held its first hearing on the next front in the battle: redistricting.

Through the redistricting process this fall, our lawmakers will draw new lines on the electoral map in Texas. And although that may sound benign, what this means for Texans is grim. Texas Republicans have muscled their way into passing a new law gutting our right to vote, and now, they will almost certainly use the redistricting process to draw unfair lines and further silence our voices.

But Friend, I don’t have to tell you who’ll be fighting back. For seven long months, Texas Democrats held out against Abbott’s anti-voter bill. Those same courageous lawmakers will be doing everything they can to get fair lines drawn this fall. And thanks to our Democratic legislators, Congress is closer than ever to passing new laws protecting voting rights for millions of Americans -- which would also protect us from the worst of the GOP’s attacks during redistricting.

We can’t let up now. Not with another battle for voting rights on our hands -- and not with Congress so close to coming through for us. Will you chip in $7 or whatever you can to keep the spotlight on Texas Republicans’ outrageous attacks -- and keep up the pressure on Congress today?

Friend, I know how exhausting it is to see Greg Abbott tyrannizing our state day in and day out. But we are on the path to defeating him. Texans have seen Abbott’s true colors, and right now, his approval ratings are the lowest ever because of it.

If we keep working as hard as we have been, we will keep shining a light on Abbott’s failures, defend Texans’ access to the ballot box, and end Texas Republicans’ reign of terror next November. I can’t thank you enough for showing up to help make that happen today.

In service and hope,
