Dear John,
Today, First Liberty launched a new, major legal action in filing Charges of Discrimination with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on behalf of two flight attendants.
We’re leading the fight against woke corporations who have jumped on the anti-religious bandwagon in the name of so-called “equality.”
In a direct violation of federal civil rights law prohibiting workplace religious discrimination, Alaska Airlines recently fired Lacey Smith—along with another flight attendant who chooses to remain anonymous at this time—for expressing their religious beliefs.
Employees are being “canceled”—not for anything they’ve done, but for what they believe.
When Alaska Airlines declared on its company’s internal message board that as a corporation it was supporting passage of the “Equality” Act, it invited employees to comment.
Acting on her sincerely held religious beliefs, Lacey responded to the posting on the messaging board by asking, “As a company, do you think it’s possible to regulate morality?”
Lacey’s question was not a public diatribe but a respectful response to what she believed was a sincere effort on the part of Alaska Airlines to get feedback from its employees.
Little did Lacey realize what would come next. For seeking clarification and attempting to engage in respectful conversation at the request of her employer, she was fired. The company told Lacey, “Defining gender identity or sexual orientation as a moral issue...is...a discriminatory statement.”
Alaska Airlines certainly has the right to support the proposed “Equality” Act. But once it opens a forum for discussion, religious employees have the right to express themselves on the same basis as other employees.
The law is clear about this. The Civil Rights Act prohibits a company from discriminating against an employee based on their religious beliefs.
But in today’s cancel culture, radical Left ideologues in control of corporate America are out to purge anyone with a dissenting point of view.
By firing Lacey Smith, Alaska Airlines has joined the ranks of many other companies hostile to people of faith.
Thankfully there are courageous Americans like Lacey Smith willing to take a stand for our country’s historic commitment to religious freedom. She wants to strike a blow against corporate America, holding them accountable so the same thing that happened to her does not happen to you or someone in your family.
That’s why Lacey turned to First Liberty. She knows that with a 90 percent win record, we get results.
To keep this string of victories going with a win for Lacey, First Liberty needs your help. Your timely donation will help ensure that she gets the justice she deserves.
Since most victims of religious persecution don’t have the money to defend themselves, First Liberty defends them in court for free. And we have been blessed with tremendous success.
That’s because we have a secret weapon. We not only have a team of expert staff lawyers at First Liberty, but also a unique national network of the best attorneys from the top law firms in the country. Because they are committed to saving religious freedom, they donate their time to defend clients like Lacey free of charge.
But even the force multiplying effect of our national network of volunteer attorneys is not enough to overcome the incredible costs of defending religious freedom. First Liberty simply cannot match the huge war chests of the enemies of faith. Corporations like Alaska Airlines have millions at their disposal.
That’s why I am writing you today. Would you prayerfully consider going All In! with First Liberty by donating to help us win this critical case?
No religious person in America should ever have to be silent and go undercover just to hold on to his or her job. By defending the civil rights of Lacey Smith to be free from religious discrimination, you will also protect your job and the jobs of people close to you.
Remember, the religious freedom of your children and grandchildren starts with you. If you won’t fight for them, who will?
God bless,
Kelly
