By now, you probably have already seen the news coming out of Texas.

A new law went into effect that prohibits abortions after six weeks — with no exception for rape or incest — and allows legal and financial punishment for anyone who performs, encourages, or even drives a woman to an abortion.

The law is extreme, restrictive, and, even worse, potentially just the tip of the iceberg.

New Jersey is not safe from these right-wing efforts. Gov. Murphy’s Republican opponent, Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, is leading the conservative assault on reproductive freedom here at home.

While Gov. Murphy has proudly supported the Reproductive Freedom Act to guarantee Roe v. Wade’s protections at the state level, Ciattarelli has repeatedly opposed it and even wants to defund Planned Parenthood. If Ciattarelli is elected Governor, New Jersey women will be in danger of losing their bodily autonomy and right to reproductive health care.

That’s why it’s more important than ever that we elect Democrats like Gov. Murphy who champion reproductive health care and will defend it against any attacks.
