Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

It's been one year since we formed the American Lung Association's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council, and we're proud of what we've accomplished since then. At the core of our mission is addressing health inequities in the United States, while also ensuring we're speaking to the unique needs of all populations. Our leadership team has a special message reflecting on this year of action — we want you to know about everything we're doing.

What We've Done in the Past Year

-Added Juneteenth as a paid holiday
-Acknowledged several observances on social media and on our website
-Conducted an annual DEI survey among our staff
-Launched a DEI page that highlights resources addressing health disparities among diverse populations
-Hosted monthly internal dialogues to broaden staff knowledge and appreciation of DEI
-Reconsidered our organization's communications to be culturally relevant and sensitive

There's More Work to be Done

This is just the beginning. The DEI Council and Executive Leadership Team are currently working together with Lung Association staff on many more ways to advance DEI in all assets of our mission work, not just externally, but within the ranks of our organization. Looking for more details? Feel free to read and download our DEI Year in Review Report.
