Organizing Locally for a World BEYOND War Did you know that most victims of drone wars remain unidentified? This month, our Central Florida chapter hosted a video presentation by WBW Board President Leah Bolger about the horrors of drone warfare. In this photo, chapter coordinator Al Mytty points to a map of World BEYOND War's peace pledge signers in 175 countries. Want to organize a WBW event in your town? Divest Your City Charlottesville, check. Philly, in progress. Is your town next? I'm talking about our Divest from the War Machine campaign to get cities, universities, and other types of institutions to divest public and private dollars from weapons manufacturers, military contractors, and war profiteers. Last week, we organized a successful meeting with the Philadelphia Investment Officer, who is now bringing our divestment proposal to the city pension board for review. The institution of war has to be dismantled piece by piece. Divestment is a tangible first step. Community by community, we have the agency to divest our towns, schools, employers, and places of worship from war. We can defund and stigmatize the war machine. "World BEYOND War caught my attention at the outset. The idea is visionary and compelling. As a member of the Advisory Board, I offer feedback and reflection on strategy, messaging, organizing tactics, and outreach. It’s an honor to serve in this way."
