John, accessing the ballot box has become increasingly challenging.

Racist voter suppression laws — supported by gun lobby-backed politicians — are being proposed and passed in state legislatures across the country. These laws are designed to make it more difficult for communities of color, people with disabilities, young people, and Americans living in poorer areas to exercise their right to vote.

Voter suppression laws disproportionately impact the same communities that suffer the most from gun violence ― Black and Brown communities. To protect all Americans from gun violence, everyone must be able to access the ballot box. We must protect the right to vote.

The late civil rights and gun violence prevention champion Rep. John Lewis devoted his life to protecting the right to vote, removing racist and systemic barriers in our democracy; he was nearly killed in his non-violent fight to secure the right to vote for all. Now, the U.S. Senate has the opportunity to pass H.R. 4 — aptly named the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act — which would restore and strengthen provisions of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, protecting voters nationwide.

Friend, will you urge your senators to co-sponsor this life-saving legislation right now? We can ensure all Americans have equal access to the ballot box to elect gun violence prevention champions — but only with your help. [[link removed]]

SEND A MESSAGE YOUR SENATORS >>> [[link removed]]Protecting the right to vote and ending voter suppression is a critical first step in this fight, friend. H.R. 4 will empower communities to take part in American democracy and cast ballots for gun violence prevention champions, like the late Rep. Lewis, who will represent their voices in Congress. This will, in turn, bolster our efforts to pass comprehensive gun laws supported by the overwhelming majority of Americans and create a safer, stronger country for everyone.
Please, contact your senators today and tell them to co-sponsor H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. We know that the fight for our democracy is the fight for gun violence prevention.
