John—
On August 4, 2019, I was out enjoying the night with my father, Derrick
Fudge, at a popular nightclub district in downtown Dayton, Ohio. A young
man came down the sidewalk firing an AR-15 style weapon, killing my father
beside me and ending eight other innocent lives.
Later, I learned the young man who shot and killed my father used a gun
modified with an arm brace. They can be affixed to certain AR-15 style
pistols—like the one used that night in Dayton—to make them function as
short-barreled rifles: extremely lethal firearms that have been regulated
since the 1930s.
But because the ATF has not effectively regulated arm braces, the gun
industry has been able to sell MILLIONS of these extremely dangerous
firearms and put them in communities like mine—completely evading gun
safety laws in the process.
John, the ATF needs to hear from you about this NOW: [ [link removed] ]With
just two clicks, tell the ATF to close this deadly loophole.
That night in 2019, my dad died in my arms after shielding me from bullets
that could have ended my life. I still cannot believe that I did not die.
Since then, I've dedicated my life to helping fellow survivors of gun
violence, empowering my community, and fighting back against senseless gun
violence and trauma across America. From victim compensation for survivors
to regulating dangerous firearms, I know that in order to stop gun
violence, we need all hands on deck.
John, can I count on you to honor the memory of my father and
the eight other people shot and killed in Dayton? [ [link removed] ]Demand action from
the ATF today.
