The Colorado Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission released thefirst staff plan mapon Friday evening. Unfortunately, the commissioners chose to put the interests of the urban Front Range first by diluting the voice of rural Colorado and completely changed the map from the firstpreliminary Congressional mapsreleased in June that were the subject of 36 hearings across the state.
This map prioritizes the interests of the Denver Metro (other than Republican Douglas County) and targets the voices of rural Coloradans. The commission also chose to split up the Western Slope, despite the voices of the people who live there.
This week will be the final chance for YOU to weigh in and give the commission your feedback on the Congressional maps.
You can do that by signing up below for a virtual time slot on September 8th, 9th or 10th. You can also submit a written comment by clicking the link below.
The professional staff that works for the redistricting commission did a good job taking what they were mandated by the commissioners to do and still creating competitive districts. There is more to this process and it is likely that the proposed maps will change again.
Please encourage those who care about fair lines to sign-up and speak to the commission this week. This is our last opportunity to weigh in through verbal testimony!
