John —
For the past 33 years, Pervis Payne — a Black person living with an intellectual disability — has been on death row in Tennessee for a crime he’s always said he didn’t commit.
His lawyers at the federal defender's office have been fighting for Pervis and recently filed a petition arguing that executing him would be unconstitutional because he has an intellectual disability. On Dec. 13, a judge is set to hear this claim, but until then, the State can still set a new execution date for Pervis at any moment. We can’t let Tennessee kill an innocent man.
We put together a list of six ways you can help Pervis right now — take a look:
1. Tune in to the Power Up For Pervis livestream on Sept. 8. at 1 p.m. ET, and learn more about his case. RSVP now [[link removed]] to make sure you’re notified when it starts.
2. RSVP for the Free Pervis Payne rally in New York City, Chicago, Washington D.C., Dallas, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, and more [[link removed]] on Sept. 8, and tweet your photo in support of Pervis to @innocence using #FreePervisPayne.
3. Urge District Attorney Amy Weirich to remove Pervis from death row right now [[link removed]
4. Text TEAMPAYNE to 52886 to stay updated about his case.
5. Support the Payne family directly by purchasing Free Pervis Payne t-shirts and masks here [[link removed]
6. Help us reach 1 million supporters for Pervis by sharing this on Twitter [[link removed]] and with your friends in Tennessee.
We can get justice for Pervis, but it’s going to take all of us doing our part.
Thank you for your support,
