The student loan debt crisis is a racial, gender, and economic justice
issue. Student debt affects people from all walks of life, and Ayanna
won’t stop fighting to cancel it.
Last week, we sent out a survey asking people how $50,000 in student loan
debt relief would make a difference in their lives. Hundreds of you
responded, and we want to take a moment to lift up some of the powerful
stories.
Here are just some of the responses we’ve received to the question: How
would the cancellation of $50,000 in student loan debt help you?
“It would completely get rid of my federal loans, which I have been paying
on for over 20 years. I’d still have a small private loan, but just paying
that amount is far easier on my budget. This would help me immensely, as I
have MS and take a very expensive medication to treat it.” - Amanda
“It would help me be able to afford orthodontic care I’ve been putting
off. It would also put me in a better financial position down the road to
be able to one day own a home. Both of these things, along with not having
such a large amount of debt hanging over my head, would considerably
improve my mental health and well-being.” - Lauren
“Releasing me from the burden of student debt would save my life. I am
paying almost $4,000 a year in student loans. To be able to save that
money for my retirement would be absolutely life-changing.” - Rashid
“I would be able to save to have a down payment to a house and ensure
intergenerational wealth.” - Crystal
“Cancelling my student loan debt would mean I can make my home mortgage
payments without stress or worry that I won't have enough for both. It
would mean I can put some money towards some much-needed repairs to my
home, repairs that I can't afford with my monthly student loan payments.
It would mean that my doctoral degree in public health from a public
university is valued by my community that I work in every day to improve
health and wellness.” - Nicole
“It would alleviate a heavy economical burden on my family. It will allow
us to prepare for our future instead of living paycheck to paycheck. It
would change our lives completely.” - Nathalie
“It would erase it and free up cash for child care expenses.” - Halcyon
“It would make the difference between paying bills or buying groceries
during some months.” - Kathryn
No one should be saddled with insurmountable student debt, but millions of
people are carrying this burden every day. And President Biden has the
executive authority to cancel it.
Ayanna and our movement have been leading the fight to cancel at least
$50,000 in federal student loan debt for every borrower, and we must keep
up the pressure on President Biden to extend and expand this life-changing
relief.

$3 contribution from you would send a
powerful message to President Biden that it’s time to do what’s right and
permanently cancel student loan debt. Will you make a $3
contribution right now?
