Texas Governor Greg Abbott just signed an elections bill significantly curtailing the freedom to vote for residents in the state. His attack on voting is straight out of the Republican playbook: Attack basic rights, then try to prevent people from doing anything about it.

It’s nothing less than an outright attack on our democracy. Support our work to fight back in Texas and across the country to protect and expand voting rights for EVERYONE.

Just last week, a new law passed by Texas Republicans putting extreme limits on the right to have an abortion went into effect in the state. Now they’re trying to limit the freedom to vote.

The new law is an attack on Black voters, immigrants, disabled residents, and anyone who cares about the rights of everyday people. It bans 24-hour and drive-thru voting that was crucial for minority and working-class voters in 2020. It uses completely fabricated and racist fears of immigrants to justify voter purges and ID requirements that disproportionally impact voters of color. And it even adds penalties to intimidate residents who help disabled voters.

And now, Governor Abbott is calling the law a “paradigm” for the country.

Governor Abbott’s attack on voting is absolutely disgusting. It’s nothing but an attempt to corrupt our entire democracy. Help us call on the Senate to take action NOW to pass the For the People Act, and STOP the attack on voting!

Democrats in the Senate MUST act to save our democracy. And Republicans like Greg Abbott MUST be called out and held accountable.
