Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has played a major role in curbing reproductive justice: His chairmanship of the Senate Judiciary Committee paved the way for Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, who allowed Texas’ inhumane law to go into effect.

The need to defeat an anti-choice Republican like Sen. Grassley could not be more clear: The Washington Post just reported that "a quarter of states are likely to introduce legislation that mirrors Texas' [abortion] ban." In 2021 alone, nearly 100 abortion restrictions have been enacted. That's why Abby is running to defeat Sen. Grassley, expand our majority in the Senate and codify Roe v. Wade into law to protect reproductive rights.

Friend, 

As you likely know, Texas just enacted the most restrictive abortion bans in the country. It's appalling, dangerous and irresponsible. To those across our country, and particularly in Texas, I want you to know I am with you. I fought for our right to choose in the statehouse in Iowa and in Congress, and I will do the same as the next U.S. Senator for Iowa.

I also want you to know I am more resolved than ever to defeat Sen. Chuck Grassley here in Iowa – because he has direct responsibility for what happened in Texas. (You can click here to pitch in a donation to help me defeat Sen. Grassley.)

You see, Sen. Grassley has tried to overturn Roe v. Wade and erode reproductive justice throughout his entire career. When he first entered the Senate, nearly 40 years ago now, he voted in favor of a constitutional amendment to overturn Roe. He's voted for abortion bans over and over again. He's voted to strip funding from Planned Parenthood, and with it, critical health care services for millions of people.

But Sen. Grassley's crowning achievements? Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, who together with three of the Court's other conservative justices, voted against blocking Texas' abortion ban from going into effect.

As the then-chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Grassley was instrumental in blocking Senate consideration of President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, and then ramming through Trump-appointed nominees who pose a direct threat to the future of reproductive rights. Now, Sen. Grassley is on the precipice of seeing his lifelong wish realized: Overnight, Roe v. Wade became meaningless in Texas.

We can do something about it. We can defeat Sen. Grassley, elect a pro-choice woman to the Senate, and expand Democrats' majority so that we can pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade into law.

To win, and to protect the future of reproductive rights, I need your help, friend.
