Friends,

Last month, we passed H.R.4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act in the U.S. House of Representatives.

You may not know this, but this was my fourth time introducing a version of the Voting Rights Advancement Act... but my first time doing it without John Lewis by my side.

As I cast my vote to pass H.R.4, I felt John’s spirit and took comfort in the fact that we’re still making good trouble and continuing his legacy.

This legislation is a huge step towards restoring the right to vote, and will renew the full promise of our democracy by ensuring that everyone’s voice can be heard at the ballot box.

John dedicated his life to defending voting rights, and now it’s up to each and every one of us to pick up the baton and honor his legacy. I’m going to keep pushing until we cement voting as the inalienable right that it is -- and I hope that you’ll join me .

Thank you,

Terri Sewell

P.S. I’m extremely proud of my Democratic colleagues in the House for passing H.R.4, but the battle is far from over. The bill now heads to the Senate where Republicans are going to do whatever they can to keep it from passing. Will you sign on to my petition calling on the Senate to pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act? → [[link removed]]
