Good morning Friend -

I wanted to re-up this action alert with you because this mortifying judicial nominee is now seriously being considered for a full floor vote and your senators need to hear from you. Thousands of people are raising their voices this week because this nominee is so bigoted and so callous against so many communities that he might actually be beatable.

These judges matter and will be on the bench for a lifetime. Stopping bad nominations is rare but this is a fight we can win. But only if we speak out together.

RE: ACTION ALERT - Oppose the “Pig Fat” Judge

Dear Friend-- 

Tomorrow, discrimination and bigotry will be on full display as in the Senate as Steven Menashi, one of President Trump’s nominees to be a federal judge, will have a hearing to discuss his fitness for the job. We can’t be more clear about this: he is not fit to sit on the bench. 

Menashi has a documented hostility to civil rights protections for women, people of color, and LGBTQ people[1] and has harbored deeply troubling[2] anti-Muslim views[3]. How could he become a fair judge?

Your senators need to hear you. We’re asking for you to speak out against Menashi’s hateful views.

Menashi has dehumanized Muslims for years and cast them as either inhuman villains from horror movies or as adversaries in civilizational warfare. He once endorsed a myth about a general executing Muslims “with bullets dipped in pig fat” and “wrapped their bodies in pigskin before burial” as a laudable national security tactic. 

That’s right: “Pig fat.” That’s just one of his clash of civilizations-style takes he has against Muslims. On top of that, he’s openly hostile to basic civil rights protections in the workplace and in schools.

Menashi’s behavior should never be condoned, much less become acceptable for a judge  elevated to a judicial appointment and confirmation hearing. In an era when judges are ruling that American Muslims are not entitled to equal religious freedom protections, Menashi’s nomination stands out as a new low. 

Speak out against this Menashi’s appointment in the hopes  we can preserve religious freedom.
