Hurricane Ida was a sad reminder that solid infrastructure can literally be the difference between life and death.

The storm caused massive destruction across the Gulf Coast and the Northeast, tearing through buildings, knocking out power, and causing major floods. There have been more than 60 deaths directly related to the storm.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), whose home state was hit hard, said the bipartisan infrastructure bill he spearheaded will help mitigate such storms in the future: “If we invest now, not just in Louisiana, but around our nation, in issues such as coastal restoration, flood mitigation, hardening the grid — there’s billions to harden the grid, so they don’t topple again, leaving our parishes without electricity — $50 billion nationwide for sewer and water, $65 billion to make sure every American has access to broadband Internet.”
