Public Support Needed to Protect Companion Animals from Being Stolen and Sold to Research Facilities

John,

The animals need your help today. The Pet Safety and Protection Act (PSPA), H.R.3187, is pending before the Livestock and Foreign Agriculture Subcommittee. The Subcommittee must see public support to approve the PSPA and move the bill to the House floor. Click to take action now.

The PSPA would stop Class B dealers from selling lost or stolen dogs and cats to research facilities. The PSPA was introduced on May 13, 2021, by Representatives Mike Doyle (D-PA) and Chris Smith (R-NJ) and now has 37 cosponsors. While this is a great start, there is still a lot of work to be done. The PSPA needs your support. Click to take action now.

Three reasons why the PSPA must pass and why we need your support:

1. The problem of lost and stolen companion animals being sold to research facilities in the U.S. dates back to at least 1966, when Life magazine ran an article. Read the article here.

2. When the Animal Welfare Act was passed in 1966, one of the main issues it sought to address was the sale of lost and stolen companion animals being sold to research facilities. Learn more here.

3. The PSPA has been introduced consecutively into Congress since 1995 but to date has failed to pass into law. The bill needs public support to be successful. Learn more here.

For the animals,
Lisa
