What happened in Texas last week was terrifying. The so-called “Texas Heartbeat Act” was codified by a bunch of men without one: a heart or a uterus.
We are witnessing the death of Roe v. Wade. This isn’t hyperbole. Religious extremism has no place in America, yet here it is. How did this happen? The propaganda machine that is the Republican party has been working for decades to undermine democracy.
Republicans are using every dirty trick — they wrote the book, after all — to get their way at any cost. Americans overwhelmingly support Roe v. Wade yet S.B. 8 was pushed through because Republican extremists control state legislatures and the Supreme Court.
The truth is they don’t care if what they do is unpopular or unconstitutional. They only care about preserving the cisgendered, white patriarchy. (It’s true.)
