"Foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government"
- George Washington, 1796

John: President Trump's actions are the exact behavior our Founders feared.

The Founders agreed they had to protect our democracy from foreign influence because they had experienced election-tampering, too. That's why they included rigorous checks and balances as well as the emoluments clause -- which expressly prohibits federal office holders including the President from receiving financial gains from foreign governments -- in our Constitution.

Trump has brazenly ignored all of that. Everything he has done over the course of the past few weeks has flown in the face of the very foundation of our democracy.

John -- we must hold Trump accountable, but we need your support to do it. Will you chip in to support Democrats as we work to get the truth Americans deserve?

The whole world witnessed as Trump publicly asked two separate foreign governments to interfere in our elections by digging up dirt on his political opponent. John, I'm appalled.

As Congress returns to Washington, we must remind our leaders that history is watching. They must uphold their oaths and defend our country.

There was an overwhelming response to my email last week -- XXX people signed our petition demanding Trump be held accountable.

Will you join us? Sign your name and call on leaders in Washington to hold Trump accountable and defend our democracy the way the Founders envisioned it.

Thank you,

Tom
