Hey John,
Do you want to learn more about your fellow activists? Join us this Saturday, October 26th for the Meetup: Stories from the Community where we will be hearing the stories of our friends, Rob Lopez and Maya Jorge Luis. Our hope with the Stories from the Community Meetups is to give a space for people in the DxE community to share and learn about and appreciate each other! So wholesome, you won't want to miss it. Meetups happen every Saturday at 11am at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are colored in blue and community events are colored in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Monday, October 21st, 9:00am: Pack the Courtroom for DxE's First Trial (Day 4) - DxE sued Diestel Turkey Ranch in 2016. Diestel, which is a major supplier of Whole Foods Market, falsely advertised that its turkeys are raised outdoors in picturesque conditions when, in fact, the vast majority are raised in massive industrial sheds. We need as many people as we can get to show the court that people care about the case! Meet us at 1221 Oak St, Oakland, CA 94612 and dress in business casual if you can.
- Tuesday, October 22nd, 8:00pm: Film Screening: The Yes Man - Come to the Berkeley Animal Rights Center for a film screening hosted by the Social Movement Book Club. We have been reading about the use of humor in social movements and will be watching this documentary about some of the most successful humorists in the anti-globalization movement.
- Saturday, October 26th, 1:30pm: March Against Amazon's Animal Abuse - Whole Foods/Amazon sell the lie that there is a humane way to exploit animals. Our activists have been investigating their suppliers for the past 5 years and we find the same suffering and violence on every "farm". For bringing this criminal animal cruelty to light, activists are facing potentially decades in prison. We demand that Amazon condemns these charges and supports the Right to Rescue. Please join us for this action. Meet at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center at 12:30pm OR meet at intersection of Fourth Street and University Avenue at 1:30pm
- Saturday, October 26th, 2:00pm: Pigeon First Aid: October - Every day there are hundreds of birds throughout the city of San Francisco who have strings and hair tightly wrapped around their toes, causing immense pain. We can help our bird friends by removing the string before the damage becomes too serious, providing medical care, and releasing them back to their flocks! We will be meeting in front of The Strand Theater in SF, at 1127 Market St, San Francisco, CA 94103. It is the bright red building across the street from Civic Center BART.
- Saturday, October 26th, 7:00pm: Halloween Party and Costume Contest - Interested or love to get involved in animal rights activism but need a community for support and to party with? Don't be the lonely vegan! For this Halloween, dress up in your favorite costume and join us to connect with other like-minded people at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center! Bring yourself and a human friend, too! Bring your BEST costume because we will end the night by contest of those who are the most scary, funny, and creative. Do you have what it takes to win this costume contest?
