Happy Labor Day to the union members who build our America everyday.
To the sheet metal workers and pipefitters, the educators and healthcare workers, the carpenters and operating engineers, transit workers and first responders, electricians and public employees, to the caregivers and hotel staff, to each and every union member - thank you.
You get us where we need to go, you mold the minds of the leaders of today and tomorrow, you keep us healthy. You keep us safe.
I’m proud to be from a union family who was able to live the American dream because of wage protections and apprenticeships. My family — like so many — faced barriers to success. My abuelo faced on the job discrimination. But because of strong unions, he was able to fight for fair treatment.
In Olympia, I’m proud to work alongside my union siblings to pass laws that improve the lives of working people. We’ve passed rest breaks for nurses, expanded childcare access, started turning our upside-down tax code right side up, strengthened financial aid and apprenticeship programs, and strengthened on-the job health & safety protections during COVID.
And I’ll be proud to keep working in my next term for working families like yours and mine.
