John,

Labor Day honors the American labor movement and the contributions that
workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our
entire nation.

The labor movement is why we have weekends, an 8-hour workday, and a
minimum wage, just to name a few of its outstanding accomplishments.

It's important that we take a moment to stop and remember that a lot of
people died fighting for the rights we now all enjoy.

So, while Labor Day is a day to honor and recognize the American labor
movement and its contributions to workers across the United States we must
also double down on the fight to protect and expand workers’ rights.

Because, not only are Republicans working to weaken unions, scale back
protections, and stymie progress on workers’ rights, they actually want to
eliminate the minimum wage altogether.

Take just one example, in the Senate, we have Republicans like Ron Johnson
(which DFA endorsed candidate Mandela Barnes is running to defeat), who
once said when talking about the minimum wage, there “Shouldn’t be one.”

What’s so ridiculous about that is his opinion is shared by many in the
Republican Party.

workers’ rights by making the minimum wage a living wage?

Every gain workers have made has come because they banded together to
fight for their rights. Nothing has ever just been given to
workers. Nothing.

While many folks across the country celebrate Labor Day in honor of the
working people who fought for a decent living where fair pay and time off
are the norm, the Republican Party is looking to destroy workers' rights,
and one of their main targets is the minimum wage.

For decades, the labor movement has been the backbone of the working class
by pushing for a level playing field for workers.

But right now, the federal minimum wage is still just $7.25 an hour and it
has not been raised in 12 years.

While we know that Republicans have consistently opposed a higher minimum
wage, a majority of Americans favor a higher federal minimum wage and want
to see Democrats take action.
