Our passport to a more normal life

Let's get vaccinated campaign graphic

We?ve been hearing over the weekend that ?vaccine passports? will likely be needed in nightclubs and other indoor venues this autumn. This would involve people having proof that they have had both doses of the Covid-19 vaccination. Having this ?double-jabbed? status would then allow access to a range of events and activities.

If such a scheme is implemented, I would advise people to take the first step to qualifying for a passport today. It would likely take about ten weeks to get a passport (you need eight weeks between first and second doses and then a further two weeks to get maximum immunity from the virus). Why not take action now to be ?passport-ready? for the autumn? If you are over 16, you can walk into the many vaccination sites across the city without appointment. Staff will be able to answer any questions you might have. The main centre at the Forest Recreation Ground is open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week. You can find details of the other vaccination centres here: [link removed] [ [link removed] ]

You could sign up a child or donate to Dolly Parton?s Imagination Library. This is a local book gifting programme devoted to inspiring children with a love of reading. Each month, enrolled children from birth to age five receive a free book. Launched in Nottingham in 2012, donations have steadily increased which has enabled more local children to benefit. Nottinghamshire Pride

Nottingham pride

This Saturday sees the welcome return of the Nottinghamshire Pride parade. Pride is always a wonderful celebration in our city, and we are so pleased that we have been able to work with organisers to ensure the fantastic parade can return safely.?

Nottingham is a diverse city that celebrates equality, inclusivity and respect and this event gains in popularity year on year. We want all our citizens to feel supported and this event shows that we support and are proud of our diverse LGBTQIA+ residents.

Major Street Art project launches in Nottingham

Nottingham street art

The City Council is really pleased to support the new street art project which has seen its first mural unveiled on the outside of our Lace Market car park ? appropriately, a lace design to celebrate Nottingham?s pioneering history with the lace industry.

The project will provide a platform for talented local artists, brighten up key areas and buildings in the city and celebrate Nottingham?s pioneering spirit. A second mural is due to start soon just below Carrington Street Bridge alongside the canal, honouring the life and achievements of Eric Irons OBE, who was the first black magistrate in the UK and helped to transform Nottingham having made the city his home in the 1950s.

I look forward to seeing this and many more pieces of artwork which are being overseen by The Nottingham Project. More information here [ [link removed] ].
