Today, we pause to recognize the hard-working people who are the heart of our economy — and the core of our democracy.

Throughout our history, workers have contributed to the strength of our country. The labor movement has created transformational progress for our society, including the 8-hour workday, weekends, child labor laws, employee health benefits, workers’ comp… the list goes on and on.

My mom was a union steward for the American Postal Workers Union, a union she was a part of for nearly 20 years. Growing up in a union household, I personally recognize the important role unions play in our lives.

I will always stand with the working families of Kansas as we strive to create opportunity and prosperity for our communities.
