Team,
This Labor Day, I’m thinking of all the reasons why I decided to run for
Senate.
Today is about workers.
Workers have been on the frontlines of every movement for progress in our
country’s history. The labor movement won massive victories that continue
to shape our lives to this day -- 40 hour work weeks, reliable benefits,
collective bargaining, and more. They got kids out of dangerous factories
and have always fought to ensure that for all of us, a hard day’s work
earns every cent it deserves.
But we're far from finished.
Since 1978, worker compensation has risen by about 12%, while CEO
compensation has skyrocketed 940% -- pushing income inequality to an
all-time high.
Across our country, massive corporations have colluded with right-wing
lawmakers to pass restrictive labor laws.
And today, millions of Ohioans and Americans are doing everything right,
only to feel themselves falling further behind thanks to stagnant wages,
outrageous health care costs, and a lack of investment in our blue-collar
communities.
I’m running for Senate to cut workers in on the deal -- to make sure that
those who keep our country running finally get the support they deserve.
I’ve been in union halls and picket lines my whole life. I promise you
that as Ohio’s next Senator, I will fight like hell for every working
family in this country. Together, we’ll carry on what the labor movement
started -- today, tomorrow, and every day after.
In solidarity,
Tim Ryan
